I guess I wasn't born long ago enough to remember a 50 cent coin even existing in circulation, although Wikipedia tells me that they're "still out there" somewhere.
Also, I tried typing out 'leaf' which prompted the bonus answer telling me to be more specific, but it was accepted as the right answer for the penny anyway.

Wow. I didn't realize Canada even HAD a 50 Cent piece. And I lived there for 29 years...

I have never seen a 50 cent piece. I think if I had one and brought it to the store they would look at me like "uhm, what is this fake?"

I remember in the mid 80s the odd person would spend one at my uncle's gas station & he'd give them to me. They're pretty rare. They're about the same size as a US 50 cent coin.

A few years ago, the Mint tried to increase awareness of 50 cent coins by issue a special collector's version... It didn't work. Also, I think "shield" should be an acceptable answer for the 50 cent piece.

I don't remember the last time I got a quarter that actually had a caribou on it, I think there are more "limited edition" quarters out there.

I had a 50 cent piece last year. It was exciting. I don't think I ever spent it though. I feel like it'd be kind of an **** move to give one to a cashier.
