While this photo used to hang in a room I used to work in when I pretended I was a physicist in college, this footage I had never before discovered which was taken that same day, and features 21 of those seated above.

Peter Debye looks a bit like Hitler.

Excellent idea for a quiz - deserves to be better known!

Only got a few by face (Curie, Einstein) and got a bunch of the others based on laws and principles in chemistry and physics. :-D Great quiz!

Oh, and I guessed Hitler about eight times for Peter Debye before asking myself why he would be at a scientific conference.

I tried and I tried and I tried but I just couldn't find Waldo.

Dammit! I was going to try Heisenberg, but I couldn't be sure.

Should've guessed Planck, de Broglie, and Debye. 6/29 isn't so bad, though.

Got 5 (with a couple of guesses), heard of another 3 or 4.
Attending a big conference obviously doesn't lead to fame among the general populace... ;-)

They wanted to get Schrodinger's cat for the picture, but no one was sure if it was alive or dead.

Recognizing these greats by face is nigh impossible, but if you know modern physics, you should be able to guess half of them.

This a great quiz. I didn't do well, but I love trying. It's humbling to think of a conference containing this much wattage. Look up the first conference. It had Nernst and Rutherford in addition to many of these attendees.

I absolutely love this quiz and the stream of science jokes it has encouraged.

Awesome quiz. If only I was in the zone, I might have remembered Brillouin.

Great idea for a quiz, although very difficult. Missed a few that I should have got (Planck, Heisenberg, Dirac) and tried a bunch of other early 20th century physicists which turned out to be wrong. I was very surprised Fermi wasn't there.

I tried Fermi too, but then realized he was only 26 years old then...

I tried Rutherford, forgetting that he was still conducting experiments in the UK!

Isn't it a shame that de Broglie isn't waving? Planck must have been a constant feature at these conferences.

Only got four, and I read Einstein's biography not too long ago. Guess I had a total brainfart on that one. :(

Man, I should have got Compton, since I took classes in a building named after him for four years...
