I was going to make a sequel to my somewhat controversial quiz One Novel Authors, but this idea came to me and seemed a little more fun. I think this does belong in literature because you have to name authors and originally I was going to give you the name of the book, but then the Disney angle becomes meaningless. Anyway, enjoy!

"Mary", not "Marry"; but it's a neat little quiz idea.

Fun quiz - knew Pinocchio's author started with C but couldn't remember it. Also, missed a couple more.

This is a great idea; I don't know why no one's done it before. I think you should add 101 Dalmatians, Song of the South, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, 20,000 Leagues, Swiss Family Robinson, Treasure Island, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, others; Lion King (Hamlet) and Pocahontas (R&J) might be too much of a stretch, but those aren't, nor are they too obscure, like The Parent Trap. Maybe Oliver&Company?

The Rescuers was based on a book by Margery Sharp, though it bore very little resemblance to the plot

Cool quiz. I'm surprised that TH White, Charles Dickens, and Washington Irving scored so low. Maybe people didn't know that Oliver & Company was based on Oliver Twist or didn't know which Arthur tale to choose for Sword in the Stone? Also, was The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad the "name of the movie" or just the name of the DVD when they packaged the two shorts together? (Maybe "Wind in the Willows" and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" should be listed seperately.)

I mixed up "Swiss Family Robinson" with "Robinson Crusoe" and kept typing "Defoe" to no avail, oops. Fun though

Joel Chandler Harris and the Brothers Grimm weren't really the authors as much as they were collectors. Harris's stories were African American folklore and many versions of Snow White were floating around Europe by the time the Grimm brothers collected that one. I'd still include them, but just wanted to have that out there.

Mutford: the same could be said for Perrault- there are other versions of Sleeping Beauty (Grimms covered that one too!) - but the answers given are the best known versions of the stories.

Good quiz, but I feel like it should also accept "AA Milne" (without the periods).

And yet Disney is incredibly protective of their own copyrighted characters (like Mickey) and won't let anyone use them in derivative works. The irony!

@ZapRowsdower: They buy the rights to all these characters/books before they make the movie. If someone bought the rights to Mickey, then he or she could use Mickey wherever. @Father_Time: Actually, I would argue all their films are original ideas, since they don't copy the stories word for word, but create something new out of it. Like for the new Princess and the Frog, the only thing from the original story is the frog bit, but they wrote something entirely different, set it in New Orleans, and it looks like a great film. And Pinocchio the film is entirely different from Pinocchio the book. But if that doesn't work for you, most of the shorts are original ideas, as well as some of the live-action/animation mix films. Then you have Saludos Amigos and Three Caballeros.

The French-language version of Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame was titled Le Bossu de Notre-Dame, instead of using the original title.

Officially, Princess and the Frog is based (loosely) on E.D. Baker's The Frog Princess. Asise from those on the list, Meet the Robinsons is based on William Joyce's A Day With Wilbur Robinson. As pointed out before, Lion King is loosely (?) based on Shakespeare's Hamlet. Pocahontas's source is usually credited as the legend plus Disney embellishment. (Even though it is similar the plot of Romeo and Juliet.)

Fun Fact: Accorting to Disney's Histories, the Disney version was based on the first film (Snow White) Walt saw as a child. As I've read the whole compilition, it could be argued that almost every Disney classic is/was from the Grimm Brothers or Anderson. The original title for half of the last box was The Adventures of Ichabod Crane. All I remember from "Mr. Toad" is that the movie had a really long and wacky title. @spqr: before I took your quiz I was about to make one similar to this.
