This quiz was hard, only got Madrid, Balaeric Islands, and Canary Islands. As this quiz joins Germany, Austria, Italy, Japan, China, Australia, USA, Mexico, Brazil, and Canada for regions/states/provinces, whats next? France? India? South Africa?

Catalunya should work for Catalonia since it's the Catalan name for it and that is the language spoken in the region.

I didn't make double figures but I was pleasantly surprised that I had heard of all the ones I missed — I was expecting a big pile of `huh?'

The official name of the Basque Country in Spanish is La Comunidad Autónoma del País Vasco, so País Vasco should be accepted at the very least.

only missed Comunidad Autónoma Vasca, though I typed País Vasco, which really should be accepted. At least that's how they normally call it in Spain.

I just guessed different wine regions, but that only gave me valencia, la mancha, navarra, and rioja. Other wine regions weren't on there such as ribera del duero. In France, the wine regions and the 'autonomous communities' are pretty much one and the same. Champagne, Burgundy, Rhone, Alsace, etc.

Yeah, FrittyZ. If the criteria for this game is autonomias then ceuta and melilla should definately be included. They're as much an integral part of Spain as the Canary Islands

I was going to comment about Ceuta and Melilla too, but Wikipedia says that they are "autonomous cities" (ciudades autónomas), whose status is between regular cities and autonomous communities. Since this quiz specifically asks for the autonomous communities of Spain, Ceuta and Melilla are rightly not included.

I got a surprising number from knowing a mix of football (soccer) clubs, big cities in Spain, and regions that are famous for wine or tourism. Still tough but I like it when quizzes are challenging :-)

Thank you, Spanish II for forcing me to memorize these. It's been four years but I still managed enough not to make myself feel thoroughly ashamed, especially since I'm going to study there next year. Nice quiz :)
