Why the "(Khmer)?" I know that that's the name of the country in its native language (also named Khmer), but why include it?

I doubt that the sea routes actually count as the silk road, but I can see why you would include them, as being peripherally attached to that trade. There were other trade routes too, and even at its height, the silk road only had maybe the equal of a dozen caravans per year on it, and it would be dwarfed by the rising European trade starting in the later 1400s.

How exactly do you get to Italy? Even through sea, you would have to pass Greece or Turkey or Tunisia or Croatia or some other country. By land it is even worse. I think the Byzantine Empire was connected to the silk roads so I would guess Turkey and Greece should be included at least. I might be wrong though so don't start yelling at me! :p

While the main branch of the Silk Road passed to the south of Kyrgyzstan, there was another northern branch which went up through Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and southern Russia. Balasagun (modern Burana tower) in Kyrgyzstan was an important city on this northern silk road branch. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balasagun

The silk road is a very arbitrary thing...if you want to include all places (which by including the maritime entrepots I'm assuming you are trying to do) then I would start at Wikipedia which suggest east africa, horn of africa, cyprus, greece, sri lanka, indonesia, etc. being included

I like the idea and the quiz itself, but there are some problems with it. I don't know about Wiki, but it could be a starting point of the research. I am pretty sure they made stops in Cyprus and Greece on the way to Venice and Somalia and Ethiopia should also be parts of the trade. Also didn't the maritime route go through Constantinople to Crimea? That would include Ukraine and possibly others around Black Sea.

No Ukraine (Kiev)? No Kyrgyzstan? There are some who even say Birka, Sweden, was the northwestern limit of the Silk Road.

I guess the routes that are counted as part of the Silk Road are a little arbitrary, but enjoyable quiz nonetheless. And it reminds me how I'd love to travel along it one day, if all of these pesky conflicts in Central Asia would just calm down.

Agra and Fatehpur Sikri are very far from sea. So, how were they part of the maritime silk routes?

I agree with GeorgiK: at the time of the Silk Road, Venice wasn't just a city in the Adriatic but was a Republic which controlled islands throughout the eastern Mediterranean. At a minimum Cyprus and Greece should be included, but Croatia, Lebanon, and Israel could also be considered.

Where does it start and stop? I would think Japan to Italy or some arbitrary Western European country. Otherwise you're only talking varying shades of middle-men on the longest silk route.

How was Kyrgyzstan not there? All of its bordering countries were. Did the Chinese just decide to split the Silk Road around Kyrgyzstan for some reason?

Every source that I've ever seen includes a bunch of countries skipped over here, like Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Burma/Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kuwait, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Israel, Lebanon, Ukraine, Cyprus, Greece, and the end of the line in France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Oh, and I almost forgot, definitely **Kyrgyzstan**.

Too UScentric. Just look at the source :p Can someone please explain why Cambodia is listed with N/A but the other former Khmer countries aren't. Is it because the road went through Cambodia but that there wasn't a specific city it stopped in? One would also assume that there was a large port in Southern Cambodia, Thailand, Mynamar or Vietnam (those mentioned are all Central or Northern Vietnam).

I would expect modern-day Singapore to have been an important stop on any maritime route through the Straits of Malacca. Why is it left off?

I had read that Somalia was connected via the sea to other silk road countries like Yemen. They are pretty close.
