Wait a minute, I've been to Canada. There can't be universal healthcare there, because there aren't dying throngs in the streets. Thats what Fox News told me would happen, don't you know

We do need to health care legislation, however, a single payer system is not the answer, IMO. We need tort reform, the ability to buy health care across state lines, etc. One of my friends lived in France for two years and said the health care was pathetic. Let's tweek our system.

@The_Snakes: yeah, I know, it's terrible! All those loser, do-nothing countries like the UK, Germany, Japan... Indeed, like most of the most sucessful economies in the world.
...basically, universal health care is something just about every other country that can afford it provides to its citizens, apart from the US.

funny how the actual Communist countries of the world don't have universal health care and yet in America there's a huge scare that it will somehow change our country into a socialist state.

Cuba's healthcare is run by the state, so it should be included. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare_in_Cuba

Definitely Cuba; I think Malta has proper healthcare too. All countries not on this list are either too poor or have no concept of what a civilised society looks like. No wonder so many Americans live in driving distance from the Canadian border.

So, let's see: Pretty much all of western Europe, the UK, Ireland, all of Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore... Yeah, it's easy to see what the Americans are afraid of.

Trivia4Fun, those are just band-aids. The CBO has already found that tort reform will save a relatively small amount of money -- certainly not enough to cover all our uninsured or hold costs down.
As for buying across state lines? Insurance companies will simply relocate to the states with the lowest standards and the fewest regulations, kind of like how all the credit card companies are headquartered in Delaware.
The current bill, which does open up state lines IIRC, will prevent this by instituting a national set of minimum standards, so that all insurance plans will have to provide a baseline level of care no matter where they're located. This lets them compete nationally without having a "race to the bottom" that shafts consumers.
Of course, these national standards are what opponents of the bill call "government takeover" and "death panels", so whaddyagonnado.

Taiwan and Brunei have it too. There's a number of countries that "have" it, Burma technically says they provide it, but in practice it's bull****. That's probably the case for most of the remaining communist nations sans Cuba. But yeah this red scare is terror of being a modern first world democracy I guess. People are dumb.

Slovenia - 1972? They were part of Yugoslavia then, did they have an exceptional rule?

Thanks for all the input, guys. The thing about Cuba is, it's not stated in the source, so I'm kinda iffy about adding it on here. So I'm just gonna keep it as is for now, but if more people say something, I'll consider adding it. Also, I love the fact that so many people want universal healthcare in the US! I know a lot of people here are really against it, but I just point out all the progressive countries like the UK, Sweden, etc. and they're pretty much silenced. Thanks for playing my quiz guys!

The Bahamas has UHC; you can confirm it at http://www.paho.org/English/SHA/prflbah.htm. If I remember correctly, it's been single-payer since 1997, but "the entitlement" (as it's known) has been around longer than that.
And might I add that there are few things more amusing than watching conservative Americans who think UHC is the devil waddle their way down off their cruise ships and head to one of the many exceptional cardiac care centers in Nassau in search of better, cheaper care than they get back home. Kinda hard to say the American system is the world's best when Americans are heading to the third world for basic procedures.

You have misunderstood the source. The source is only the developed nations with health care. There are other countries (Cuba, Liechtenstein, etc.) that have universal healthcare not on the source because of the source's criteria for inclusion. Find a better course and this would be a good quiz.

I think the US should be added as a bonus under insurance mandate given Obama has just signed the health care overhaul into law. the mandate part doesnt take effect until 2014

Taiwan is a developed country, and it has a single-payer universal healthcare plan.

Agree, the game can't be right. I can't believe Slovenia has UHC since 20 years before the breakup of Yugoslavia yet none of the former Yugoslav republics has...
