Might wanna capitalize Mantle. but no biggie. Great Quiz. I'd be interested to see more statistics too.

There is no way those seasons of Piazza, Wagner and Mantle should be on here while the years that Hack Wilson and Chuck Klein had in 1930 are left off.

I'd take a good look at Musial in 1948 also. He led the lead in almost everything that year.

Max, I believe MLB network was going for best offensive season at each position.

Jeff Bagwell's 1994 season .368, 39 HR, and 116 RBI's would be top 9 if not for the strike. They only played 2/3 of the season, other wise his numbers project to .368, 57, 171. That's just sick.

legend930: I don't believe that were going position by position, otherwise you wouldn't have 5 OF and no third baseman.

This source is terrible. If they're going for best at each position, there's no 3B. If they're going for top OPS+ (as it says as the only criteria at the top), they skipped a bunch of guys.

The MLB network does these shows called prime nine which are top nine lists and that's what this is from. They were doing top nine hitting seasons in history and not by position. I watched it the other day they said that they went mainly by writer's votes and adjusted OPS.

I would put Ruth's 1920 over his 1921. The league run production as a whole increased dramatically in 1921 (OPS shot up 43 points) so I would say Ruth's offensive output in 1920 was more valuable than his output in 1921.

RodTidwell -- Bagwell indeed was phenomenal in 1994, but he was probably the only one in the world who was actually helped by the strike. He had just suffered a season-ending injury and wouldn't have played another game.

I read the explanation given via the link and I still don't understand the criteria. OPS+ is mentioned but most of those guys had higher ones in seasons other than the season listed for them.
