@erak...because depreciate only refers to value. Rise can refer to many things other than value.
Along the same lines as little baby, which is not redundant but merely categorizes a particular baby relative to other babies, tall skyscraper is also not redundant. A 70-story building might be a tall skyscraper while a 30-story one might be a small one. And both of those can depend on what city you're in. Well, 70 is probably "tall" everywhere, but a 30-story building might be really tall by Barcelona standards but would be fairly average, or even small, by New York standards. And eggseronius has a great point that pair of twins is not redundant if you're using it to specify that you're dealing with one set of twins rather than multiple sets.
Also, although it is true that, by definition, halves are equal, as the father of a 2-year old and a 4-year old, well do I know the importance of making sure that the "halves" are indeed equal. |
