| Interesting quiz, but the source seems a little suspect to me. "King", for example, is listed at #349. Really? Sure, it's a well-known word, but when was the last time you heard it in conversation or read it outside of fairy tales. Even in England, they haven't had a King in over 50 years. The list you have is probably close, but how does anyone realistically get a sufficient sample of the "combined results of British English, American English and Australian English surveys of contemporary sources in English: newspapers, magazines, books, TV, radio and real life conversations - the language as it is written and spoken today" as claimed on the site, to generate this list? |
