I was not surprised that Vatican City was an answer. However, I was surprised by which column it was in.

How is the vatican female dominant? Every high ranking member of the Christian-wrong is male.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 04:09 GMT
They're probably storing nuns in the catacombs
Dec 10th, 2009 at 04:27 GMT
Help! This person and his spunky title are stealing my identity!
Dec 10th, 2009 at 04:30 GMT
The Middle East is a sausage fest. No wonder they're so pissed off.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 04:31 GMT
What exactly do these numbers mean?
Dec 10th, 2009 at 04:32 GMT
Sorry haha. I thought it sounded better than Gender Imbalances. I can change it back if it's infringing on your turf, if you request.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 04:33 GMT
The numbers are # of men per 100 women, as it says in the line below the source
Dec 10th, 2009 at 04:34 GMT
I'm actually kind of flattered... but I can't be the only person secretly hoping this was a picture quiz.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 04:44 GMT
I knew the gulf countries would be male-dominant because of all the foreign Indian and Filipino etc. oil workers. I thought that the most female dominant territories would be war torn countries but I guess not. I wonder why eastern europe has so many women.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 04:50 GMT
Damn it, I came in here thinking it would be a quiz on the best selling Madonna books.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 04:54 GMT
acp39: All the Eastern European men are committing suicide. Really.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 05:06 GMT
Way to bring it around full circle!
Dec 10th, 2009 at 05:20 GMT
Interesting how Tuvalu is female dominant, while other Oceanic countries are male dominant.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 06:03 GMT
I think this quiz's title has found the key to getting a lot of people interested in your Sporcle quiz. ;-)

@acp39: I'd chalk it up to Eastern European job migration. All the men are in Germany and Denmark. Also, what Pumpkin Bomb said.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 06:52 GMT
Really surprised China isn't on here. And I'm wondering... Who are all these women in Vatican City?
Dec 10th, 2009 at 07:11 GMT
@RS89: China and one other one had 107, but for the sake of having 30 total I figured out which ones were least 107ish, and China was like 106.7 or something like that so it didn't make the cut
Dec 10th, 2009 at 09:05 GMT
oh...USSR and the middle east Are they under reporting the number of women in those gulf countries? Or are they counting foreign workers(non-citizen) as well?
Dec 10th, 2009 at 11:02 GMT
female dominance in the vatican?

After getting the Middle East, Oceania and typing in all the countries in Europe, it was pretty much random guessing. Interesting, though.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 12:47 GMT
I'm moving to Latvia.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 14:41 GMT
I love Latvia
Dec 10th, 2009 at 14:43 GMT
Sure, the pope's the figurehead, but it's the nuns that gets things done. I think most of what we see is the result of male migrant workers -- places with jobs have a lot of men, people without jobs have few men.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 16:21 GMT
Interesting quiz. I like how they are distinctly concentrated in eastern europe and the middle east except a few outliers. Also cool to see that the #1 guessed answer has only 58%
Dec 10th, 2009 at 17:33 GMT
If only latvia could decrease its suicide and murder rates and increase its fruit, vegetable and dessert production, I would seriously consider moving there
Dec 10th, 2009 at 17:39 GMT
Vatican City just blew my mind.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 21:25 GMT
those middle eastern men need to find some new hobbies
Dec 10th, 2009 at 22:00 GMT
I would also suggest that there is still some imbalance in the former Soviet Republics from the World War II generation. So many men died in the war and in Stalin's purges that there are many more old women than old men in those countries.
Dec 10th, 2009 at 22:15 GMT
Is it bad that I was within seconds of making the heading for each side "Taco Parties" and "Sausage Fests"?
Dec 11th, 2009 at 00:03 GMT
The reason for Eastern Europe being so female-dominated may have something to do with radiation from old Soviet nuclear power plants and nuclear wastes, as well as disasters such as Chernobyl which produced massive radioactive clouds which I assume would have reached all over Eastern Europe. A study done six months after Chernobyl showed a drop in male births, the current theory being that developing male embryos are more sensitive to environmental influence. Interesting.

I'm surprised France isn't on here...100% female dominant...zing!

A 2 to 1 male ration, arranged child marriages and legal polygamy. Must be dreadfully hard to find any single women there. Add to that the promise of 72 virgins for those who die in Jihad and it's no wonder they can recruit suicide bombers.
Dec 11th, 2009 at 12:10 GMT
Alcoholism, drug use and smoking are also factors in making males in particular die early in Eastern Europe.
Dec 11th, 2009 at 14:33 GMT
Is there any correlation between the fact that Lithuania has such a high suicide rate and that it is female-dominated? LOL
Dec 15th, 2009 at 16:25 GMT
Now that I've got your attention, vote for Bart!
Dec 16th, 2009 at 05:41 GMT
The preponderance of males in some of these countries isn't just migrant workers, it's because of female infanticide.
Dec 16th, 2009 at 07:42 GMT
Female infanticide? Have you ever even been to the region? The middle eastern countries having high number of men IS because of all the south asian and filipino migrant workers... go to the UAE and try to find an arab, honest it's hard. They're all there to make a living and send money back to their ramshackled homes in the poorest areas of the world. Usually they are taken advantage of and their passports are confiscated making them essentially have to work for very, very low wage and poor working conditions. So please think twice before telling the middle easterners to "get a hobby" or some other obnoxious comment because you are simply clueless as to the world outside your town.
Dec 16th, 2009 at 14:11 GMT
Eastern Europe has a bunch of issues: high male suicide rates, hugely imbalanced life expectancies in favor of women (based a lot on alcoholism), human trafficking (especially from the western edge of the former ussr), and job-based migration. but don't think there are tons of available hotties in the region... just tons of lonely ladies over 60.
