I was not surprised that Vatican City was an answer. However, I was surprised by which column it was in.

How is the vatican female dominant? Every high ranking member of the Christian-wrong is male.

Sorry haha. I thought it sounded better than Gender Imbalances. I can change it back if it's infringing on your turf, if you request.

I knew the gulf countries would be male-dominant because of all the foreign Indian and Filipino etc. oil workers. I thought that the most female dominant territories would be war torn countries but I guess not. I wonder why eastern europe has so many women.

@acp39: I'd chalk it up to Eastern European job migration. All the men are in Germany and Denmark. Also, what Pumpkin Bomb said.

@RS89: China and one other one had 107, but for the sake of having 30 total I figured out which ones were least 107ish, and China was like 106.7 or something like that so it didn't make the cut

oh...USSR and the middle east Are they under reporting the number of women in those gulf countries? Or are they counting foreign workers(non-citizen) as well?

After getting the Middle East, Oceania and typing in all the countries in Europe, it was pretty much random guessing. Interesting, though.

Sure, the pope's the figurehead, but it's the nuns that gets things done. I think most of what we see is the result of male migrant workers -- places with jobs have a lot of men, people without jobs have few men.

Interesting quiz. I like how they are distinctly concentrated in eastern europe and the middle east except a few outliers. Also cool to see that the #1 guessed answer has only 58%

I would also suggest that there is still some imbalance in the former Soviet Republics from the World War II generation. So many men died in the war and in Stalin's purges that there are many more old women than old men in those countries.

The reason for Eastern Europe being so female-dominated may have something to do with radiation from old Soviet nuclear power plants and nuclear wastes, as well as disasters such as Chernobyl which produced massive radioactive clouds which I assume would have reached all over Eastern Europe. A study done six months after Chernobyl showed a drop in male births, the current theory being that developing male embryos are more sensitive to environmental influence. Interesting.

A 2 to 1 male ration, arranged child marriages and legal polygamy. Must be dreadfully hard to find any single women there. Add to that the promise of 72 virgins for those who die in Jihad and it's no wonder they can recruit suicide bombers.

Alcoholism, drug use and smoking are also factors in making males in particular die early in Eastern Europe.

The preponderance of males in some of these countries isn't just migrant workers, it's because of female infanticide.

Female infanticide? Have you ever even been to the region? The middle eastern countries having high number of men IS because of all the south asian and filipino migrant workers... go to the UAE and try to find an arab, honest it's hard. They're all there to make a living and send money back to their ramshackled homes in the poorest areas of the world. Usually they are taken advantage of and their passports are confiscated making them essentially have to work for very, very low wage and poor working conditions. So please think twice before telling the middle easterners to "get a hobby" or some other obnoxious comment because you are simply clueless as to the world outside your town.

Eastern Europe has a bunch of issues: high male suicide rates, hugely imbalanced life expectancies in favor of women (based a lot on alcoholism), human trafficking (especially from the western edge of the former ussr), and job-based migration. but don't think there are tons of available hotties in the region... just tons of lonely ladies over 60.
