Haha I actually tried cats and dogs. Freezing rain is the same as rain...what makes it freezing rain is the fact that it freezes once it reaches the ground.

Ice Pellets is a recognized type of precipitation, used for small hail. Other kinds of precipitation that show up in weather service observations are snow pellets, snow grains, snow crystals, unknown precipitation, drizzle, and freezing drizzle.
