Andy freakin Pettitte.... A decade that had Maddux, Johnson, Halladay, Schilling, Martinez, Clemens, Glavine and Santana... and Pettitte has the most. That is amazingg... How many less wins would he have had if he didn't play for the Yankees?

You're right, who would ever have thought that Andy Pettitte would ever have the most wins among the pitchers that were in his era. You got to remember though that Maddux, Johnson, Martinez won a lot of their games in the 90s.

Andy Pettitte is nothing if not consistent... he won 13 games every year except 2004 with a ERA of 3.90 and an ERA+ of 114. Always good, but never dominated. I wonder if he has a shot at the Hall of Fame.

Well Pettitte pitched for good teams with great offenses for the most part and the pitcher win is a pretty useless stat anyway.

A lot of these guys are horses who put in a lot of decent to good innings every year (or even not so good--Livan Hernandez hasn't had a good season since 2004). You do that and you'll rack up the wins. Pettitte would be on the list even if he never played for the Yankees, though he likely wouldn't be at the top. It's not like Moyer is an all-time great either and he has more than all those non-Johnson guys too

This is good evidence that wins are a useless stat. And yes, Pettitte has a shot at the HoF - because he played in NY, for the Yankees. In reality he should have no shot. He's mediocre and a cheater.

For what it's worth, taking out his two partial seasons (2002 and 2004) Pettitte averaged 15.5 wins per year with the Yankees and 15.4 with the Astros

Didnt Roger Clemens play in Toronto too? Or was that previous to the 2000s???

JGS, it isn't worth much considering those Astros teams were great too and he went with Clemens as essentially ringers. AND he was still cheating those years.
