IMDb
IMDb uses an algorithm to determine the Top 4 movies an actor is known for. I'm not sure how much you agree, but it's all up to IMDb, and that is the source I used.
* means animated film.

A few are surprising, but Pretty Woman not being there for Julia Roberts stunned me. Nice quiz. Off to do the Best Actor edition.

The 2004 film under Julie Andrews needs an asterisk.

This was a lot of fun. But yeah, who doesn't associate Julia Roberts with "Pretty Woman?" Maybe I'm getting old, but I think Meryl Streep and I think "Sophie's Choice," "Silkwood", "Kramer vs. Kramer", even "Cry in the Dark" before some of these others.

Couldn't believe how difficult that was! Nice job, very different way to think about these actors.

IMDB is just plain wrong on more than a few of these.

The ones for Halle Berry are the worst. She got an Oscar for Monster's Ball - why not that one? The people who are rating these are way too young.

These are absurd. Halle Berry was the first black woman to win a Best Actress Oscar for "Monster's Ball" and memorably went topless in "Swordfish", yet she's supposedly most known for her minor role in the X-Men trilogy? Gwyneth Paltrow was an Oscar winner for "Shakespeare In Love" and has been the lead actress in over a dozen Hollywood moneymakers, yet IMDB managed to choose four films where she's barely a supporting character. Apparently no one remembered Jodie Foster's Oscar-winning performance in "The Accused", either. And picking "Notting Hill" over "Pretty Woman" for Julia Roberts is just plain idiocy.

I'm surprised that The Deer Hunter and Kramer vs. Kramer are not on the list for Meryl Streep.

I highly disagree that these are the movies these actresses are most well known for. They might be the movies in which they starred that got the highest rankings on IMDB, but there's no way Julia Roberts is more well known for Closer or Notting Hill (which I really liked) than for Pretty Woman... NO WAY. And that's just one of many, many examples where this is messed up.

Agreed that this is terribly skewed. To paraphrase Charles Dickens, "If the is imbd's list, imbd is an ass." In addition to those everybody else has mentioned: Holly Hunter "Broadcast News" and "Raising Arizona." Diane Keaton "Looking for Mr. Goodbar." Jodie Foster "The Accused" and "Nell." If this is an "Editor's Pick" I've gotta wonder about the editor.
