Answers do not have to be guessed in order
Source:
IMDb
IMDb uses an algorithm to determine the Top 4 movies an actor is known for. I'm not sure how much you agree, but it's all up to IMDb, and that is the source I used.

Nice job. Tougher than it looks. Can't believe Midnight Cowboy didn't make it for Voight or Hoffman.

For anyone frustrated by the correct answers: Can't speak for the quizmaster, but this is likely based on the movies that got the most votes for each actor on IMDB. So it's a sample of the general, Internet-using (much younger skewing) population, not a sample of people who really know these actors, their work, or cinema in general.

@Sharpdale, I have an app for IMDb on my phone that tells me four movies that any specific actor is known for, but generally, you're absolutely right, it's usually whichever movies that have the most votes for a particular actor.

This is a good quiz, with a crap source, which is good because it means there will be debate down here in comment land. Give us a sequel at some point.

Great quiz idea with interesting results. Seeing Hook for Dustin Hoffman made me laugh. Really, IMDB? Hook over The Graduate? Sure it was Spielberg, but really?

Not the quiz maker's fault but ugh. I'd like to take some of those kids to the movies.

Its amazing that some of the movies the actors actually won Oscars for (eg Nicholson - one flew over the cuckoos nest, Olivier - Hamlet) don't feature.

I'm more surprised at Castaway not on there for Hanks. Woody was the character in Toy Story, not Hanks himself. Didn't even know Voight was in Heat and I've seen that movie multiple times.

Who could ever forget Jon Voight's performance in "Transformers?" It was no "Coming Home," but then again, Michael Bay is always getting snubbed by the Oscars.... :/ These bizarre results make for a maddenly enjoyable Sporcle quiz.

moon over say, se7en for kevin spacey was the strangest as the latter has almost 5 times as many votes. i guess it's because spacey isn't one of the main credits, though that was mostly just to surprise the audience

@joker101
: Considering the high acclaim given to the four films that
are
selected for Nicholson (and I'll note he also got an Oscar for the 1997 film), this may be less a "ratings snub" and more a case of "there are simply a lot of popular Jack Nicholson films".

I can't believe nobody has complained that Gene Hackman is not listed with "Hoosiers". I honestly couldn't think straight enough to remember him in anything else after I realized that wasn't one of the answers.

lord of war for nicholas cage surprised me. I only vaguely remember that movie title existing; it seems like he has a lot more known movies. Leaving las vegas, con air, etc. And man on fire for denzel? Strange, but makes for a fun quiz.

I really like the idea of the quiz, but I think IMDB is full of it. Green Mile AND Da Vinci Code for Tom Hanks??? Not even close

Da Vinci Code for Tom Hanks? More like the Toy Story Trilogy. On another note could you have picked a worse list of actors?

Great to see Moon there for Kevin Spacey although I'm not really sure if it best represents him as an actor since he was just a voice. Unbelievable movie though. Would really like to see a sequel with some more less known actors, that would be interesting.

really the movie choices are terrible....and nearly everything is from 2000's +......great idea for the quiz....but dig deeper than the four movies imdb puts up, because they are aimed for the younger kids. OH and they missed tom hanks' best performance as well as denzel's in Philadelphia... I means seriously Da vinci code was good but has no place on this list......Neither does Tron: Legacy, over Tron.

The earliest movie for William Hurt is from 1998? I don't think I can even think of any movies he's been in since then.

I'm not commenting on the quality of Bridget Jones' Diary, but (embarrassingly) I guessed it for Colin Firth.
