27/31. It's amazing how many of these I've picked up by just listening to radio 4 in the background. Most have sensible names (e.g. Humber, Biscay, German Bight) so guessing a few more was quite easy. Still tough to get close to them all. Good quiz.

I got three, which isn't bad considering that all I know about these is from Blur's song "This is a Low".

@fishmonkey: Finisterre was renamed FitzRoy in 2002.

I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot, but what's a Shipping Forecast Area?

@ Katie the shipping forecast is just a weather forecast for ships at sea. BBC Radio 4's long wave broadcast can be picked up quite a distance away from the shore but as it is audio only the sea around the UK is divided up into areas to make the explanation easier. This has been going on for so long that the shipping forecast has enter a more mainstream consciousness.

I love the shipping forecast. you can be all snuggled up in bed and the rain lashing at the window and its strangely comforting to know someone is looking out for all the fishermen around our islands

Do Brits actually know this? I'm impressed if they do. I got two by guessing random spots in the UK. Then again I live in the states.

I got fourteen, mostly from remembering the Master Singers' weather forecast in Anglican Chant.

I think "faroes" should be allowable for faeroes. I know the BBC website spells it the second way, but the islands can be spelled the first...
