| I can see your point, sbshuffler85. Many people think that no pitcher can be a team's or league's MVP. After all, they have the Cy Young Award. On the other hand, it is kind of like saying a player excelling in defense is never deserving of the MVP award. Is the player who prevents the opponent from scoring really less valuable to a team than the player who scores for his team? I have witnessed many games where the relief pitcher literally saved the game by coming in with a one or two run lead, the bases loaded, no outs, the stands rocking and killed the opponent's momentum by shutting them down. I would then walk away feeling like that guy was the most valuable for his team on that day. No doubt, many of his teammates felt the same way. |
