| Washington should be reserved for the state, not so much the city in/of DC. Wasington wanted to be named Columbia after the Columbia River when it became a state, however, it couldn't be because of the confusion with District of Columbia. However, who says District of Columbia these days? So somebody decided to name the state Washington (as if the state wanted to be named after the capital), which makes it confusing. And now when I say I'm from Washington, everyone thinks I'm from the capital, not the state. |
