The top 50 players according to the opinion of a guy who rates teamwork ahead of everything, then puts Jordan ahead of Russell, praises Iverson, putting him at #29, and puts Vince Carter in his top 96?

How was Jordan not a good team player? He averaged 5 assists. For a shooting guard.

@2nd comment: gervin and kidd >>>>> maravich in the all-time scale. the worst ranking is lebron at #20. olajuwon and oneal should be ahead of west and robertson. robertson @9 is really overrating unless you don't care about winning.

He's about to release his paperback and change his rankings based on what happened the last two years. Not sure what the changes are going to be but he said that Kobe moved into the top 10.

if Simmons didn't like Kobe he wouldn't have overrated him, Kobe does not belong in the top 20.

I didnt say jordan wasn't a good teammate, but that Bill Russell and his 11 championships should win out according to the theme of his book that he put so much effort into. Instead he went with an ad hoc I loved watching Jordan play so he's #1, I love Iverson so I'll make excuses for him, etc.

Simmons put Jordan ahead of Russell because, in his words, it would be hard to see Russell succeeding at the same level today.

I know that people have done his list before, but I made this quiz his top 50 because many people were missing a lot of the players ranked lower on his list.

Wow... according to this list Kobe is the 7th greatest Laker of all-time. (Abdul-Jabbar, Johnson, Chamberlain, West, O'Neal, Baylor) Really? Also, why is Duncan so high?

Wow... Kobe is on this list. Really? He is actually, at best, the 7th greatest Laker on the roster right now (after Artest, Barnes, Bynum, Ratliff, Fisher and Odom). Dude is useless.

Perhaps I should call up Phil Jackson and let him know that it would be a smart choice to have Theo Ratliff take the game-winning shot when it is needed.

Why all the Kobe hate? Everyone has said he sucks, but no one has come up with a legitimate reason why.

Miller was a great shooter, not a great player. Dominique was an amazing dunker but not a top 50 guy. I am surprised that a Celtic fan left out Parish though.

dominique was more than just an amazing dunker. he is 10th all time in scoring.....he had 10 straight seasons with atleast 25 pts and 6 rebounds per game.

My bad squiggly. I wasn't reffering just to you though, a bunch of other guys were hatin on the best SG to graduate from my high school (Lower Merion).

That's something more realistic - maybe 2nd best SG to graduate from Lower Merion High School, after Greg Robbins. But top 20 SG in the West Conference right now? Pffft! Not a chance. He gets a few points on offense because of superior teammates, luck, favorable officiating. But guy can't defend. Dude does nothing all game.

I don't think that you can argue that Russell deserves to be #1 just because he won 11 championships compared to Jordan's 6. It wasn't just Bill Russell. If you look, there are 3 other guys on this list of 50 who were teammates of Bill Russell at some point for those 11 rings...John Havlicek, Sam Jones, and Bob Cousy

It was a diluted league, many teams had multiple hall of famers. He also ranked Russell 1 because he was a great teammate, the best defensive player of all time, and underrated offensively

@squigglykey Duncan is that high because he's one of the top ten players ever. What hasn't the guy done to prove that he's one of the ten best ever? @luke78 Nique, and Reggie Miller to some extent, were slightly overvalued during their careers because of their penchant for creating great highlight reels. As for their entire career, they weren't top 50.

Simmons is BS when he claims that with the new rules Jordan would score 45 points now. By that logic, then Kobe and LeBron 'back in the day' would have scored only 20.
