The lyrics in the clips from each of these songs add up to be the overall lyrics of one song. The object of this sporcle is to name the lyrics that are being sung in each clip AND the names of the songs that each clip is from. First, name the lyrics that are being sung. Then, name the name of the song. Finally, name the "Overall Song" that the lyrics are from and the artist who sings it. Since some of the clips are very short, each clip is played twice during the times given, and they are spread out from each other. From 4:22 to 5:26, I have put the clips together so you can see how the "Overall Song" sounds sung by various artists. Please let me know what you think of this quiz and give me any suggestions that you have for improvement. Thanks! Enjoy the quiz!

Haha, well done. That was a lot of fun. Is the hits quiz for 2008 next though? You're so close to the end on that series.
May 3rd, 2010 at 04:53 GMT
Yes, the 2008 quiz is next :)

This is just brilliant. Some of the songs were damn near unguessable, but figuring out the theme was quite satisfying.
May 3rd, 2010 at 05:03 GMT
Thank you for playing the songs twice and then all together at the end. Finally I don't have to pause to damn clip 40 times.

I must say, I never expected it to be a challenge to figure out what lyrics were being sung. For instance, I don't hear the word "now" at all in the "to know now" clip; I hear "to know... I!". This is an excellent idea, and the low difficulty level of the final song offsets (to some degree) the extreme difficulty of guessing a majority of the song titles (which is the point you may want to address most if you want to expand upon this idea). Occasionally, the end of a clip is cut as an unrelated syllable is beginning; this is preventable if you use the right program (out of curiosity, what are you using now?). I was about to make the opposite remark as thebishop; I feel skipping past a clip you're done with (especially if you don't know the title) is more of a hassle than pausing/rewinding. Perhaps it's just a divisive issue... to each their own, and it's good to know you had user friendliness in mind when making the quiz.
Great work, but try to find a set of lyrics with easier-to-identify clips.

As Arte Johnson would say, "Verrry interesting. But shtupid." But *brilliant* in its shtupidity--really very clever and fun quiz! And thanks for being lenient in which word(s) exactly were being sung; it's quite easy to miss the "now" or "oh" or what have you.

This is just brilliant! It must have been tricky to find just the right combination of words for several of those clues. Immediate Editor's Choice.

This is amazing. I thought you would include "Dance The Night Away" by Van Halen, but oh well.

sbme-- you've outdone yourself! You always have fun quizzes, but I particularly enjoyed this... However, my daughter is going to disown me -- I missed the Cure, All Time Low, and FOB -- all groups she listens to...

this is really quite amazing. this must have taken a lot of work, and it is definitely appreciated. I love the VERY wide selection of music, even if that does make it particularly challenging. and like was said, good job on being lenient on accepted answers.
May 3rd, 2010 at 19:20 GMT
kinda clever. i think you should accept "where did our love go" for "tainted love" since that's what's actually being played (and yes, i know that on the radio edit of "tainted love," it segues directly into it).

this is pretty clever! I guess my only knock would be that the 'overall song' was immediately apparent after the getting the first two lines, but that didn't make it any less fun to play. Nice job!
May 3rd, 2010 at 21:55 GMT
Oh, very very ingenious. I like it a lot. Make more.

nice quiz, funny to see how most music is pretty much about the same stuff
May 4th, 2010 at 14:36 GMT
Great quiz. Original idea and well done. I really liked that you played each clip twice and had space between. It really helps on the short clips. It gives you time to think a little and type before the next clip is running into it. And this way we don't have to pause so much. Good job. :)

I thought it was one of the more original ideas on Sporcle. way to go.
May 6th, 2010 at 07:52 GMT
Definitely an original idea! It took me a while to get it (longer than some, probably) but when I got it, I was like "OHHH!" :-) This would be another interesting one to see more of!

It's really bothering me how you have Meryl Streep singing Mama Mia, can't you just use the original instead of some obscure cover version?
May 8th, 2010 at 05:40 GMT
@benfster: I used the Meryl Streep version because its lyrics are slightly different than the original and it contains the lyrics that I needed to use. The ABBA version does not have the needed lyrics.
May 9th, 2010 at 14:23 GMT
It took me until 'Yeah' to realize that I was trying to find both the lyrics and song even though I read the title... I guess that teaches me to not read the first comment as instructed

this was really fun! and i feel kinda special for knowing the rather obscure queen song but i'm not sure if that's a good special haha!

wow great idea!

Really great idea for a quiz. I think the "yeah" clip is really hard to hear though.

very clever quiz, great job!

one of the best quizzes i've ever done. brilliant!
Aug 20th, 2010 at 22:51 GMT
Great idea. Very clever game. Just one gripe - the first song isn't Tainted Love, it is "Where did our love go" by Soft Cell.
Oct 29th, 2010 at 16:27 GMT
@Weeshughie--No, the song is indeed "Tainted Love". It is, however, a cover within a cover within a cover. Soft Cell's version is a cover of the original, done by Gloria Jones. Within the cover is a cover of "Where Did Our Love Go" by The Supremes. Hope that helps. :)

Meryl Streep didn't sing Mamma Mia originally!..?
Aug 17th, 2012 at 18:38 GMT
Five globes just for including Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy. And ABBA sung Mamma Mia originally. Great idea!
Apr 13th, 2013 at 21:45 GMT
I'd say it's a GREAT concept, and the quiz format itself is good, but that the music part is poorly executed. The song clips need to be cut off so they are cleaner and other words aren't heard in them (before and after) the lyrics that you want. The doubling of the clips . . . that's moot, really, but it should be mentioned that they are doubled so people know.
