Great idea. Hungarian stumped me completely. Really interesting how I find it much harder to guess from a chorus singing as opposed to a single voice. Only criticism would that the final language sample is only about 8 syllables, a bit too small to be able to make much of a reasonable guess at Zulu, or even place the continent (for me & most people, I would think).

Absolutely fantastic. What would happen if you used one of those DIRAC pitch-shifting programs to adjust the key without altering the tempo? Does it make the voices sound too weird?

Really clever, plus a great showtune in any language.

Sometimes I try out quizzes that are highly rated but whose subject matter wouldn't ordinarily interest me. It was really worth it in this case--so glad I gave it a chance.

I would cut the time to 6 minutes max...that still gives time to listen to the clip twice. Any more time is just added guessing.

No doubt, the English version is the best ! And English ain't my first language ! Loved the quiz. And a question: how can Mandarin be more found than English ??

Wow. Just today I made a "multilanguage" quiz (though I didn't use that word - maybe I should?). Then just now I see this one as editor's pick for language! Well done - five globes for Simba.

lol, I'm Dutch, but only got "Dutch" at the last moment. After listening to it about ten times, I can finally make out what they're singing. Funny how you don't recognize it when you're not expecting it.

Great idea! Maybe decrease the time a bit- I only got 2 after the first listen, but managed to get a total of 10/13 by guessing random languages.

@Brabant: same here. I only recognised it because I heard the song too much as a child, I still don't understand my own language, basically =D

Got them all first time, even Zulu! Strangely, I found French one of the hardest; I only worked it out because of the "je voudrais". The voice at 0:44 sounds nothing like French to me.

One of the challenges with this is that vocal sounds when singing aren't the same as they are when speaking, so even if you could recognize the spoken language, you might not recognize it in the song. Great Quiz!
