| As everybody can tell, I've been a big fan of sbme's musical quizzes. I like how he has included both the well-known Top 15 hits and the forgotten Top 15 hits of each year. On each quiz, though, I wonder about all of the songs that were not included. I'm shocked at just how many qualifying songs each year has, so it's no wonder that sbme can't squeeze them all into one game. For 1970, I think the most glaring exclusion was The Guess Who's #1 hit "American Woman". He opted instead for their slightly less well-known "Share the Land". I'm also a bit surprised at the exclusion of B.B. King's signature song, "The Thrill Is Gone", which did hit #15 in 1970. --- Other notable 1970 songs not in this game: Badfinger's "No Matter What" (#8), The Chairmen of the Board's "Give Me Just a Little More Time" (#3), Tyrone Davis' "Turn Back the Hands of Time" (#3 and a favorite of mine), The Delfonics' "Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time" (#10), The Friends of Distinction's "Love or Let Me Be Lonely" (#6), Eddie Holman's "Hey There Lonely Girl" (#3), John Lennon's "Instant Karma" (#3), Mungo Jerry's "In the Summertime" (#3), Anne Murray's "Snowbird" (#8), Rare Earth's "Get Ready" (#4), Vanity Fare's "Hitchin' a Ride" (#5), White Plains' "My Baby Loves Lovin'" (#13), and Stevie Wonder's "Heaven Help Us All" (#9) and "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" (#3). 1970 also saw Perry Como's final Top 10 hit, "It's Impossible". "Impossible" is the right word. That obscure song would've made for some interesting comments. |
