| East St. Louis is a very troubled place, and would certainly not be a "major suburb" of St. Louis under any definition of "major" or "suburb." It has lost more than half its population since 1980 and was less than 30,000 people in the 2010 census. Nearly all the major suburbs of St. Louis are to the west, not across the river. Belleville is the largest suburb on the Illinois side, with about 44,000 residents. |
