| I've personally met women born around 1970 and before who's given names are John, James, Jeffrey, Michael, Thomas, Daniel, Etc. Many (but not all) were "only" children who were named after their father, as he had no son (and apparently no prospect of having one). Many went by their middle names later in life as it was bothersome to them to explain why they had a "boys" name. The practice continues today as parents name their daughters with "gender neutral" names, albeit for different reasons. So, while unusual, I'd say they are NOT merely statistical errors. |
