| Good quiz, it likely won't be an actual issue but you should accept "Nee" as an alternative answer for "Nein" for German, as Nee is a very commonly used variant by native German speakers. |

| I could be wrong because I only know a few phrases, but I thought "no" in Russian was pronounced/spelled in English "nyet". |

| Anyone have a better transliteration of the Lao Yes and No? I think i can be more accurate by getting advice from someone who actually speaks Lao. That would be great.
Thanks for all the positive feedback and corrections! |

| Wait, so in Mandarin "no" translates as "not yes?" That's hilarious. |
 | Steesh: | Dec 23rd, 2009 at 01:50 GMT | 7 points |
| There is no Chinese word for yes or no. The way to say it is to repeat the verb, for example are you happy? i am/am not (shi/bushi) or do you have an apple? have/don't have (you/meiyou). Shi is simply the verb to be and so is often the affirmative answer to a question. Dui/bu dui is probably more like yes/no. It corresponds to correct/not correct. I'm not Chinese but I'm living in China and learning the language. Perhaps a native speaker can shed more light though.... |

| The ones in Hindi are slightly off. As they are now, they roughly translate to "yes sir/ma'am" and "no sir/ma'am." "Yes" and "no" are directly translated as "ha" and "nahi," respectively. These are usually transliterated (in India) as "haan" and "nahin" to indicate a nasal vowel. |

| Oxi is No for Greek, but in Greek alphabet. In Greek alphabet, a letter like X corresponds to kind of a hard h sound which is transliterated as ch or kh. Therefore No in Greek should be Ochi or Okhi. |
