First of all, Sin City is Las Vegas, not New Orleans. Also, most people know Milwaukee for beer, not Portland.

Agree above... I was really confused when Las Vegas didn't work.

Detroit is not on a lake, it is on the Detroit River.

malexander is correct. Sitka has the largest area of any city in the U.S. It's bigger than any of the three smallest states.

Also, shouldn't this be in order? I kept guessing large cities...

Indianapolis is known for an Indy Car event (the Indy 500), not a NASCAR event, although NASCAR does run a race there (the Brickyard 400) as well.

I'd force people to guess in order, but other than that, great quiz? @sammyhain, you're going to compare Penn, Villanova, St. Joseph's, and Temple with Harvard, MIT, Tufts, BC, BU, and Northeastern? Hahaha

Charlotte is also known as the Queen City, and the New Orleans clue is pretty vague (you could try city of beads and swamps) but other than that, fun quiz.

@sammetsfan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_area http://www.census.gov/statab/ccdb/cit1010r.txt Neither the US Census Bureau or Wikipedia say that Jacksonville is the largest city in the US, don't know where you're getting that idea. And even though Wikipedia doesn't list it, Yakutat, AK is even larger than Sitka. 7,649 square miles, compared to 2,874 for Sitka and 767 for Jacksonville. (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/02/02282.html) You would be correct in saying that Jacksonville is the largest city by area in the /continental/ US, but once you include Alaska, it's not even close.

Most of the elite colleges near Boston aren't actually in Boston. Harvard, MIT, and Brandeis are all outside the city.

@malexander10: Valiant effort. @ sammetsfan: Do you have a cadre of friends who vote you up and others down, even when they give you well-documented, correct info? Look at Wikipedia's Jacksonville page again - and have a dictionary handy to look up "contiguous".
