| If this quiz just said when it was created, it would be a whole lot more interesting. These lists are by their nature arbitrary, and a lot of the fun of playing this quizzes is trying to get inside the heads of the list-makers. Advertising the quiz as "The Sporting News named these 30 baseball players the greatest of all time in 1998 (or whenever)" provides important context.
Frankly, while the list is outdated, that's part of what makes it fun. It's like looking at some weird snapshot of baseball history. It would be interesting to have one of these that came out each decade to give an idea about how perceptions changed.
Anyway, while saying up front what year the list came out would be really useful, it still doesn't account for why some names are on the list and some are not, but that's the Sporting News's fault, not the quizmaker's. |
