	The town of Stanford, CA was named after the university. Wake Forest is no longer in Wake Forest, NC, but was named after the town nevertheless. Miami of Ohio is named after Miami River, and I left Northwestern off because they were still named after a bit of geography, though nothing specific.

	Clemson, South Carolina and Auburn, Alabama are towns. Good call on Temple. As for "Southern Methodist" I figured it was named after the religious denomination, southern Methodist.

	It's IN Clemson, however Clemson was renamed after the university.

	I've looked into SMU a little, and it appears that it was named for being a Methodist University in the south. It was founded by the United Methodist Church, and was meant as the school for all methodists wests of the Mississippi, not just in the South. I do not think it should be included.

	These are just FBS universities, so ones that play college football, so that is why DePaul and Marquette are not here. And Northwestern was named after the Northwest Territory, which was eventually turned into states like Minnesota nad Wisconsin

	Army's actual school name is the United States Military Academy at West Point, which is located in West Point, New York. So it should at least get an asterisk.

	Rutgers' full name is Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, so I'd put an asterisk there too

	Miami University is not named after the river. The river and the University are named after the Native American tribe.

	Northwestern was called that way because it was in the Northwest United States when established.

	JRicoC: I just said what they are named after, not their location. For instance, Stanford is also located in Stanford, California, however the university was named after a former politician in California, then the town it was in was subsequently renamed after the University.

	the quiz says named after a location. clemson university was NOT named after the town of clemson. The town was named after the university. Now that is settled.

	@ryan vt: the denomination is not "southern methodist," its "united methodist." the southern comes from—get this—the fact that the university is in the south (texas). take it off.
