Can you pick the Beatles song represented by each line of melody?
Click the matching answer button below Correctly selected answers will show up in green Match each Beatles melody to the name of the song. If you sing the melody aloud (which I highly recommend, especially if you're playing at work), you'll sing the words in the name of the song! Please feel free to let me know what you think of this edition (especially the number of songs included), and if you have any great ideas for future quizzes in this series, post them below!
giveupyet : Mar 12th, 2013 at 12:34 GMT 3 points This is easily one of my favorite series on here. Awesome job!
rszbdx : Mar 12th, 2013 at 19:04 GMT 2 points Thanks for the CP, AdmiralMaxtreme!
ballabosh : Mar 13th, 2013 at 02:14 GMT 0 points Very cool quiz. One (minor) criticism I would make is for number twelve, in that the name of the song isn't actually sung there. The words from the title are, but not the actual title. Maybe you need to reword your instructions. But it is a great quiz. Five globes.
rszbdx : Mar 13th, 2013 at 02:50 GMT 1 point @ballabosh: I was aware of that and tried to hedge it, but what you're saying is true - I wasn't quite vague enough. I've made it a little more ambiguous, so the problem you describe should be taken care of. Thanks for playing!
Jethro : Mar 13th, 2013 at 03:42 GMT 1 point Excellent game!
Sneuticles : Mar 13th, 2013 at 16:18 GMT 1 point Seriously, this is an all-time great quiz, BUT... raising the time limit to 20 minutes would be nice. It took me about 7 minutes to get 5 or 6, and then I noticed the clock and knew I wasn't going to be able to play the whole quiz.
david6k : Mar 15th, 2013 at 22:20 GMT 1 point Absolutely love the concept. But I was thrown for a while by the fact that sometimes the title words were at the beginning of the line and sometimes they weren't - most notable on #7. (Well, that was after first getting thrown by the fact that it wasn't the opening bars of each song, but that's just because I can't read instructions.) And I think to answer ballabosh's comment, you might consider substituting that one out instead of changing the instructions. There are lots of great possibilities where the title is sung. "Help!" could be a fun choice, or "Paperback Writer."
rszbdx : Mar 15th, 2013 at 23:20 GMT 4 points @david6k: I understand where you're coming from, but respectfully decline your proposed changes for several reasons. First of all, I design these quizzes so that getting the title by singing the words is a perk, not the main point of the game. I actually don't think it's necessary. Additionally, I choose the clips for inclusion on the basis of a few criteria, including musical phrasing and recognizability. If it's awkward to get the gist of a song in a few measures, it's not included. Finally, the program I use to generate the music doesn't allow me to switch time signatures in the same song, so some that I would have liked to include, such as Blackbird, didn't make the cut. So I'm happy with the way it stands now, but thanks for your comments.
david6k : Mar 19th, 2013 at 23:23 GMT 1 point Thanks for the response. As I said, love the concept, so please view these as little nitpicky details on which reasonable people can differ. And I did eventually get them all -- though I am pleased to report that my pre-teen son is such a better sight reader than I am that he did it in less than half my time :-)
