| How's Yale over Texas? Try 18 national titles, 2 Heisman Trophy Winners (just as many as UT), first school to 800 wins, for the longest time was still the winningest program in history (Michigan only topped them a few years ago, mostly because the Ivies play 10 games a year while the big conference schools play 12-13). Not only that, but the Yale Bowl, built in 1914, was the first bowl shaped stadium in the country, and thus inspired the design of LA Coliseum, Michigan Stadium and the Rose Bowl. Indeed, the very name of the Rose Bowl, and with it the "Bowl Game" are derived from its existence. While their history is certainly older than some, in many ways they pioneered the game we love today. There's a reason Walter Camp (Yale graduate 1880) is known as the "Father of American Football." |
