Buster Keaton died in 1966, not 1996.

This list really needs a source. The lack of Roman Polanski makes me sad.

For such a short, unsourced list, it's actually pretty good in terms of giving the consensus greatest directors, I think. I got 21 (22 if Godard had counted), and the three I missed were head slappers. Definitely fix Godard's name, though.

What kind of greatest directors list is missing Frank Capra? And what about Kevin Smith? (Ok that part was a joke, though I do love his movies)

This is a pretty good list. The great directors I can think of that are missing are more masters than influential.

For better or worse, one has to include Tarantino, maybe even Wes Anderson or PT Anderson or even the Coens. How Capra isn't on there is bewildering. Too optimistic, I suppose, for the film elite. He was undoubtedly influential though. Elia Kazan, William Wellman or William Wyler for that matter. Heck, Raoul Walsh, anyone?

http://www.filmsite.org/directors.html Not sure why rsplenda didn't cite the source, but that's it, in order.

Lynch, finch? I'm guessing those 2 are considered overrated or something, because I don't see a reason for them not to include them. Also, please have Marty as an alt to Scorsese.
