Two different sources used: For Northernmost points Nationmaster.com, for Southernmost points, Statemaster.com. Oddly, neither provides both lists.

List of Northernmost points:
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/geo_nor_poi_lat-geography-northernmost-point-latitude
List of Southernmost points:
http://www.statemaster.com/encyclopedia/List-of-countries-by-southernmost-point
Wikipedia values differ. Their list would include China in the top ten, listing the southermost point as James Shoal. But the highest point on James Shoal is 20 feet
underwater
, so that's questionable as a claim.

To anticipate your comments, I've gone with the "forced order" on this quiz because the first answer is probably the most interesting and amazing. If I don't force an order, it just becomes a glorified "countries of the world" quiz with fewer answers.

Finally, I recognize there is a similar quiz, but it uses Wikipedia as it's source and doesn't specify overseas territories until the comments. If you want to try it out it's at

Trying to think about early explorers and nations with a history of exploration certainly helped with this quiz. I'm just worried the list might get a little bit more political, once the natural resources are up for grabs in Antarctica, but looking on the bright side... I suppose we can make up some good Sporcle quizzes if and when that happens.

rockgolf, I think you can take off the "forced order" without making it a "glorified countries of the world" quiz -- just shorten the time, you can't guess all the countries of the world in say 3-4 minutes. At the very least, uncover the missed answers. I only made it through the first 5 but now i don't know which ones I missed.

I think the URL is right! It would be better without the forced order.

Looking at the results, it surely isn't too hard at the moment (27% are getting it all), but I for one would like it slightly more if were the "answer individually" but not "forced in order" kind. Really interesting nonetheless!

This started out being really frustrating with the forced order, but eventually I had a short list of countries that I would try in each one and it ended up making the ranking clear and much more interesting. I possibly wouldn't have taken note of the order otherwise. Good work!

I was amazed neither Chile or Argentina made it on here!
