Sorry this isn't fancier. I came up with the idea of the puzzle, worked long and hard on trying to ensure that it was solvable and unique, all with the hope of the actual puzzle looking like the full-color illustration.
What I forgot was that you can't set the color of the cells
and
have wrong answers end the quiz. Also, on "force answers in order" option, the "Answers with the word 'go' display on Start" only works on the first square. And to get this solvable, you need all 4 pre-filled squares.
Hopefully, even with those limitations, people who like logic puzzles will still get some fun out of this, my first logic puzzle attempt.

Totally see where you were trying to go here, totally see how you were trying to stretch the limits of the format and how they just wouldn't stretch far enough, and totally enjoyed the quiz.

This is brilliant rockgolf! Just curious, is there a name for this type of puzzle or did you make it up? A quick search just gives me Sudoku puzzles that use colours instead of numbers.

Very cool! As far as getting the grid to look like the puzzle itself--perhaps it can be done with the same magic that makes the published image quizzes work, with the images above the answer?

Maybe it's just me, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around the 6x6 grid with none of the same colors in the same column or row, (done twice, once with the colors, and again with the words!)

loved it! I just counted corresponding cells and that worked fine. It would be terrible as a forced order quiz though because, just like sudoku, it's not line-by-line sequential logic. Answering one color could reveal another color on the other side of the puzzle.

Shame about the limitations, but I still loved this quiz. Unique and quite challenging.

The instructions have a typo in the first paragraph. When listing the colours you name red twice and skip orange. Still a fun quiz overall, despite the format limitations.

Really nice quiz. I particularly liked not having to figure out "does 'adjacent' include diagonals on this one?"

You should make this quiz accept single letter answers since they're all different. ROYGBIV. Err.. ROYGBW. Other than that, you're golden!

@Zak6009: What happens when your first cell colored is Orange? Orange gets colored with the 'O', and your next cell is filled Red with the 'R', and odds are it'll be wrong and end your game.

@vikZ: To my knowledge, this is an original format of logic puzzle, although it clearly borrow elements from traditional logic puzzles, Sudoku, Mastermind, and a Games magazine puzzle called Battleships that I enjoyed.
@Government_Agent: Oops! Okay, I've replaced the image with the correct list.
@EVERYONE: Did you solve the puzzle in the same way as the explanation in the solution? Or is there a more elegant method I missed?

Then I have to give a huge kudos to you for coming up with your own puzzle. It's very original.
In response to your solution explanation, I did do it differently. On your 3rd step, where you find blue and yellow in the 5th row, you can find out the entire 5th row. The first column can't have any colour matches, and the 3rd column can only have 1 which you already found on the 1st row. So the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th colours have to match in the 5th row, so you also find out green is in the last column of that row. Then you can find out red is in the 1st column and orange is in the 3rd column of the 5th row. Then I continued by putting orange in the 3rd row of the last column since it's the last spot it could be in that column.

@actwentysix: It took me a bit to realize what exactly you were trying to say. Well, if it says so in the instructions, it shouldn't be an issue... but also, if you've been typing one-letter answers the whole time, you're not gonna 'habitually' type something out, unless it's the very first one. In which case they should have read the instructions.

I think it was an excellent puzzle. I love the logic problems and I love suduko, so this was a double like for me. It was a little confusing at first looking back and forth between the color grid and the answer grid, but given what you have to work with as far as formatting, it was brilliant. Good job and 5 globes!

Wow! A quiz of mine (this one) has actually made the "Joy Factor" list for the first time. (The irony is I came up with the term "Joy Factor" which I originally based on the the square root of plays times the square of the rating - the idea being to find a balance of popularity and ratings. The Sporcle powers-that-be use a similar but different formula, but I have no idea what it is.)

The format actually made the second half of the quiz a lot easier (filling in the incorrect matches). If you're using sudoku-style logic to eliminate possibilities for each cell, then having just text is much less confusing. Cheers, RG, you've done it again, you old scoundrel.

Great logic puzzle - 5 globes! I agree with Zak that it would be a nice touch if it accepted the first letters of the colours since they are all unique.

When I was testing, I used the first letters as placeholders of possible colors. (I used "GROW-BY" as a mnemonic for the color list.) If I accepted first letters, I couldn't do that. I suspect others may use the same method, if not the same mnemonic.

Fun quiz. Too bad sporcle won't let you set it so we can just enter the text onto the actual color grid versus the blank grid.

Enjoyable--although I really couldn't logic out a couple of them and made a couple of wrong guesses and had to start over...remembering some of what I'd already figured out.

Extremely enjoyable. Having the extra table you didn't want was fine because it made the quiz even more challenging. Now if could only figure how to do a 3D logic puzzle.

Excellent. Pity it's not (yet) possible to set this up as you wanted, though I think @goseaward's suggestion might get you most of what you want. I also didn't do it the way you suggested, mostly because I making notes using pen and paper and didn't always catch things when referring back and forth. So I have a much *less* elegant way to do it. that involved doing most of the third row much earlier in the process.

Great puzzle. Took me 5 times, but once I got past the first half of the puzzle, it fell in place. My mistakes were mine.
