This quiz could be a complete flop. I’d understand if it is. But I’ve seen Sports quizzes on the most obscure minutiae get hundreds of hits. Maybe this will perk some interest too.
Here’s the origin: Last Christmas my daughter got me a Snuggie-like blanket with various Marvel comic characters printed on it. (hey, Canadian winters are cold!) Just by looking at it I could recognize that Thor was cribbed from Jack Kirby pencils and Vince Colletta inks, that Wolverine was a John Byrne/Terry Austin, and that Spider-man was definitely John Romita. To me, their styles were as distinct as Batman from Galactus.
Eventually, I wondered if I was alone in this skill. Well here’s my way of finding out.
I’ve picked 16 of the best-known comic book artists of the so-called silver and bronze ages (almost all are personal favorites) and some of their most iconic panels. I’m sure people who know comics well will be able to identify exactly what issue of which book these first appeared in.
So which great comic book artists did I miss? Is there room or interest in a sequel? |
