You have all the information you need to answer

To be fair, I actually got the Westing Game question *before* I realised the gimmick of the quiz. Would have been screwed on the others though.

Clever idea, suggest making the time limit shorter, then the challenge is, after spotting you have the answers, finding them quickly within each question.
Oct 1st, 2009 at 20:15 GMT
I thought I had déjà vu when I read one question that sounded oddly familiar...
Oct 1st, 2009 at 21:22 GMT
I felt so clever that i got "Sunset Towers" "HA rockgolf, didn't count on me being a big fan of that book did you!?" Than i kept reading...

Two weird things: 1) Two of the first 20 or so player on this quiz actually read "The Westing Game". What are the odds on that?
2) I submitted 5 quizzes today, and advertised 4 in other quizzes I recently had on the front page. This one I didn't list
, and it's had more hits than all but one of the five.
I'm not going to list them here, but if you want to play any of my "contributed" or "published" quizzes, click on my name and you can link to them from there.

I agree with delToro87, knock teh time down to 3 or 4 minutes and see how quickly people "get it".

OH MY GOD!!! I actually managed to get all of them! And on my first try!!
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 03:44 GMT
HA, nice...A+ for creativity.

Sometimes all you need to create buzz is a good quiz name. I don't want to reduce the time. I
players to work it out themselves. To get that growing realization that, aha, there's less to this than it looks!

I read the Westing Game, but it didn't help me on this quiz; too long ago, back in grade school. Clever quiz, though; I was down to the second-to-last question before my brain clued in on it.
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 04:39 GMT
This quiz is absolutely awesome. Quite original. It should at least be published as a small letters quiz just to throw everyone for a loop.
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 05:18 GMT
Very cute. Of course, I freakin loved The Westing Game when I was a kid, so I got really excited... Small world.

When I got to the second sturgeon question I had an Oh **** moment
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 06:02 GMT
My experience was the same as Nutterz's.

Sweet, sweet quiz ! Wish I'd thought of it.
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 11:14 GMT
And I've learnt so much! Mostly about sturgeon.
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 11:54 GMT
Unfortunately, there's no way of knowing how many people just read the first 3 or 4 questions then just give up without even trying to answer. With people saying that the internet shortens your attention span, I salute those of you who went above and beyond.

I love the Westing Game! One of my all-time favorite books. That being said, I probably couldn't have answered the question about the name of the apartment complex with out the hints within the quiz. Very fun.
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 14:30 GMT
LOL! That was awesome. I missed TANG because for whatever reason I thought I was looking for a time not type of Dynasty. I kept typing 8th Century, Eight Century, 8 century, 743 AD!!!!! haha... silly me. Read the words!
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 17:37 GMT
I figured it out when I kept getting the answer to George Walton Comprehensive wrong - I kept typing Monroe Georgia (where the school my niece and nephew attend, George Walton Academy, is located) then glanced and saw "Marietta GA" in a school-related clue. Otherwise I may have given up too quickly.
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 20:19 GMT
I admit, it took me almost an entire minute to realize that these questions were not in fact impossible
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 20:44 GMT
AKA the copy-paste quiz :-) I suppose I'm the only one that see something symbolic at its creation date (October 1st)... But I guess making it exactly 6 months sooner or later would spoil some of the fun.
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 20:52 GMT
i like the time limit where it is, to make people believe they have to think long and hard about it
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 21:14 GMT
I had no trouble answering Sunset Towers or any of The Westing Game questions. But then again, I've reread The Westing Game more times than I care to count.
Oct 2nd, 2009 at 23:58 GMT
I was thinking Lassiter for the 109th ranked school by the Newsweek survey... but that was before I cheated by looking at the other questions. Fun quiz!
Oct 3rd, 2009 at 00:07 GMT
I loved this!
Oct 3rd, 2009 at 00:52 GMT
awesome quiz finished in 4 minutes. and I love The Westing Game Refernces!
Oct 3rd, 2009 at 01:43 GMT
Love it. Great quiz.
Oct 3rd, 2009 at 02:34 GMT
The Westing Game is a children's classic. I didn't remember the name of the towers, but I could have answered either of the other two questions without any problem. The other questions are indeed difficult.
Oct 3rd, 2009 at 09:45 GMT
@twist: Glad you admitted your weakness; I was wondering how people could get 10 or 11 but not all 12. I almost gave up, too, before I "got it". Great quiz!
Oct 3rd, 2009 at 17:32 GMT
A quick background: I got the idea for the quiz when trying to frame a question for a different game. I realized, I could ask the question several different ways, and the info would overlap such that even if you didn't know the answers, you could work them out from the other questions.
Then I thought I could pick some really obscure info, stuff I wouldn't expect anyone to reasonably know, and make a quiz that allowed the player to work it out. The trick was finding really obscure stuff.
The solution was the "random article" button on Wikipedia. "The Westing Game" was the first article that came up, and I had absolutely no idea that it was remotely popular. It's a kids book from 30 years ago, for goodness sake!
It only took a few such random jumps to find the esoterica in this quiz.
Oct 3rd, 2009 at 18:32 GMT
I love the Westing Game. Forgot the name of the apartment complex though.
Oct 3rd, 2009 at 22:27 GMT
Nice. Fun Game.
Oct 4th, 2009 at 05:33 GMT
