@katiepw, @segacs, @bucklepin: The history of the song is even more complicated than that! The song was released in the UK in 1988, went to #1 in Australia & top ten in Canada in 1989, finally broke the US charts when Mary Stuart Masterson used it on set when dancing for a scene in Benny & Joon which inspired the director to add it to the soundtrack, and finally went to #1 in it's native UK only a couple of years ago! (Actually, the UK #1 was a comedy/charity cover which also included a verse from the original performers.)
My original title for the quiz was "If you don't like this song, then I don't want to know you". They were wise to change it. |
