At the link provided, the US Census gives links to download scads of baby name data. The births by state list every baby name for every year (min 5 babies with that name) split over 51 files. In total there are over 9 million lines of data from which I've gleaned the info listed above.
The 300 answer limit meant I had to exclude DC, so for completists, the most popular names in the district were: 2011: Sophia & William, 1986: Ashley & Michale, and 1961: Mary & Michael.
The years selected were the most recent (obviously), 25, and 50 years ago, to get a sense of generational shift. One odd note is that although population is up, the most popular names aren't given to as many kids. Parents are, to a larger extent, trying to avoid the most common names. |
