Oh please, "Empire State of Mind" is tripe. It's one of those songs that has no artistic purpose; its sole reason for existence is to make people feel faux-inspired and, thus, purchase the track.
Also, I want to clarify my previous statement: This isn't an awful list, but it's only not awful for VH1's standards. Of course there will be too much pop, of course the only rappers who make it are the super-famous ones, of course indie rock is non-existent (and most of the mainstream rock is the most boring imaginable, i.e. Creed and Matchbox Twenty), etc. But for VH1, this isn't an unimaginably bad effort. |
