I'm testing a couple of new features on this crossword. Most important is the use of the "black square" ("█") to indicate unfilled spaces, just like in a real crossword. This allows for longer and possibly more satisfying crosswords. For example, the first & last column each have two completely separate words each with their own definition.
The second "improvement" is that I've tried to make it very difficult to fill in the crossword by using "-a" or other tricks to fill in all instances of a letter.
I've done this by replacing most of the letters with very similar or even identical looking characters from the Ariel font. There's some Greek letter, some Cyrillic, and some oddly accented characters. For example, you'll notice a little dot in the middle of the "L"s, an extra stroke on the "G"s. It's a trade-off between security and readability.
I think these should all be viewable characters, even on pretty old machines, but if you see an empty rectangle where you don't think it should be let me know in the comments. |
