Hard to believe it's been over 3 years, but towards the end of 2009, I tried an experimental quiz. Well, the quiz wasn't so experimental. It listed about 150 song titles from the past decade and asked you to identify the acts who performed them. The song list was a combination of the biggest hits of the year, smaller but well-loved hits, and songs nominated by players in the comments sections.
After about a month, I scrapped my original list, and rewrote the quiz incorporating about 50 of the most popular player-nominated tracks. But I also, before it was published, added a separate comment for each song and artist of each track in the quiz. The first comments told players they could determine the "very best" of the decade by voting up or down the comments of songs they loved or hated. The result was hundreds of voters determining the best and worst songs of the decade in what I grandiosely called "A SPORCLE EXPERIMENT IN PARTICIPATORY DEMOCRACY". |
