Stats are taken from the YouTube video for my 5-second 5-letter song quiz, which has now been played over 75,000 times. The actual visits numbers are the times the videoclip connected with the quiz has been played. The per capita value is the population divided by the number of views, so on the first example, 1 in every 819 people in that location has played this quiz. Which is kinda scarey, especially when you find out where it is...

From my calculations that's still only about 600 out of the 75,000 quiz takers. I'd have been more frightened had it turned out to be Texas or something.

Some problems with this quiz. The District of Columbia isn't a state, so really shouldn't be listed under "States". You also need to accept "UK" for United Kingdom, and I'm pretty sure that the USA has the most visits to sporcle than any other country.

@Jam: I agree DC isn't a state, but what
you call it without giving the answer away? I'll add UK, but USA was so obvious, I didn't think it was worth adding.

Great, jokes, but has absolutely no basis in fact. And DC is not a state, and USA is a country. Grr.

The concept is great, but I have doubts on the sample picked. I would assume the popularity of various quizzes varies between areas. The best, by far, measurement is the country/state of origin of all registered users. Unfortunately, I think noone but the staff can access that information with any ease.

...and we give Kyrgyzstan all that good PR, and they don't even bother logging in ! Too busy Ulak Tartyshing one suspects.

@Bearface: I'm unclear as to why you say this has no basis in fact. The figures from YouTube are accurate. I'd like to see a non-music video quiz to see if the number differ. I don't expect they will change a great deal, to be honest.
@Flick: Alas, not a single Kyrgyzstani hit on that quiz.

Come on Great Plains, Mountain and Far West states- you're slacking off! Get inside and Sporcle, damn you! I wonder if Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia have the same problem north of the border.

An interesting (at least I hope) side note. I pulled up the same stats for my "History As We Heard It" quiz, which has about 49,000 plays and is also a YouTube quiz. I'm not sure how to access the state by state data, but I can tell you that the top ten countries on that one are the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, UZBEKISTAN, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands and Finland. Obviously, Uzbekistan was a bit of a surprise there. Not quite Kyrgyzstan, but not far off either. When I looked at just the day the quiz was published, Qatar and Grenada slipped into the top ten.

@hejman: I'd be interested in comparing stats. To get the figures for States, click on USA in the map first, then get the .csv

It should accept "Washington DC." When that wasn't accepted, I assumed it wasn't valid, not that it was input wrong...

South Korea should be climbing the actual overall stats, what with all the KPop quizzes that were topping the user charts last month.

Looks like the American South doesn't Sporcle. Their loss.

If I played multimedia quizzes, I would have bet that I alone was the source of DC's rate. To be fair, I was introduced to Sporcle by a friend at Georgetown and I know the Sporcle founder gave a talk there last year.

Is there any way we could have a quiz that would count actual visits to Sporcle? On a sidenote - Rockgolf, are there any visits from Bosnia?
Dec 2nd, 2012 at 23:54 GMT
I would add "Washington, D.C." as an alternative answer. I typed it in that way, and as "DC," but stopped there, assuming the first answer would have been accepted if it were right.

Looking at this quiz two years after I wrote it, there's a remarkable correlation between states that play Sporcle and states that voted for Obama.

Wow, the South doesn't like Sporcle. Shocking. ;)

I thought I'd single-handedly put my state on there, and then I read the criterion for inclusion. Since I only tend to do quizzes that can be taken in silence, I remain anonymous in my Sporcle addiction.
