Where's a Sorting Hat when you really need one?
Dec 3rd, 2010 at 17:25 GMT
cool quiz, too much time though
Dec 3rd, 2010 at 17:30 GMT
Apparently so, based on results. 9 of the first 11 got 100%. I've reduced from 10 minutes to 6.
Dec 3rd, 2010 at 17:52 GMT
cool quiz, but technically crouch should be the first DADA teacher.
Dec 3rd, 2010 at 18:06 GMT
@Doback: I see what you're getting at. I've slighted reworded the clue to get around that without spoilers. Thanks.
Dec 3rd, 2010 at 22:26 GMT
I like this one, but I agree, too much time. It will be more challenging with less time.
Dec 4th, 2010 at 00:00 GMT
Love it! I'd drop it another minute to 5.
Dec 4th, 2010 at 01:48 GMT
cant believe how many times I had to say the alphabet in my head
Dec 4th, 2010 at 09:25 GMT
too much time. i had fun
Dec 4th, 2010 at 10:19 GMT
Played it, loved it !

Great quiz, but I feel like I'm not finished. I want a N.E.W.T. level.
Dec 4th, 2010 at 16:59 GMT
Loved it, 5 globes. But just a slight annoyance, at the end when it says "You have received your O.W.L. levels" it is repetitive since O.W.L. stands for Ordinary Wizarding Level.

I thought The Weasley children were going to give me the most trouble, but i ripped through that the fastest.
Dec 4th, 2010 at 18:19 GMT
Still way too much time! You either need to make it 2 or 3 minutes or add more categories. And having categories with only 4 things makes it way too easy. Maybe add the Horcruxes? Gryffindors in Harry's year?
Dec 4th, 2010 at 18:59 GMT
I am, for lack of a better word, gobsmacked that nearly 700 plays in, over 65% of you are getting every answer. So
I've added a second question to the final year
, rather than pull a "reducio" on the time. Best of luck!
Dec 4th, 2010 at 20:54 GMT
Took me forever to remember Charlie. I always forget him for some reason.
Dec 4th, 2010 at 23:56 GMT
nice one, i got it all . :)) great quiz. :D

The html gave me the giggles.

But Snape wasn't a DADA teacher when Harry, Ron, and Hermione attended Hogwarts, Slughorn was!
Dec 6th, 2010 at 16:19 GMT
@heatherbanana, Slughorn taught potions their sixth year. Snape was awarded the post of DADA teacher. There actually is a chapter titled for that reason (Snape Victorious).
Dec 6th, 2010 at 18:47 GMT
Awesome quiz, but still too much time! You could totally add more questions for years 6 and 7. For example, name the four house elves that readers are introduced to, in alphabetical order (Dobby, Hokey, Kreacher, Winky). Give the last names, alphabetically, of the people who become minister of magic during the course of the series (Fudge, Scrimgeour, Shacklebolt, Thicknesse). Name the types of dragons that have been mentioned in the series (Chinese Fireball, Common Welsh Green, Hungarian Horntail, Norwegian Ridgeback, Swedish Shortsnout). That's just off the top of my head.
Dec 6th, 2010 at 21:03 GMT
i would ask for a sequel with more difficult questions. this one was fun but pretty easy.

Shouldn't the Weasley family use their full names? Ronald,Ginerva, William, Charles, Frederick (possibly), Percival (possibly), and George.
Dec 7th, 2010 at 15:38 GMT
I cant believe I missed Spinnet!! I was witting there with almost a minute to go and forthe life of me couldn't think of her name. Love the quiz.
Dec 7th, 2010 at 22:38 GMT
Did fine until I got to the Quidditch team..Could think of all except the first one :P
Dec 8th, 2010 at 00:09 GMT
Excellent quiz! Well done - what a good idea. Not too hard, not too easy and a nice twist on stuff we all know really well, making us think about it in a different way.
Dec 9th, 2010 at 13:04 GMT
Not that you need my permission, but I'm giving it anyways. If someone wants to use the "safecracker" format to create an even tougher Harry Potter puzzle, you have my blessing.
I'd even suggest you put a comment in this quiz with a link.
(So if you see such a link don't automatically vote it down. Play the game & if it's good, vote it up instead.)
Dec 9th, 2010 at 13:09 GMT
If you do go with the format, 1) Make sure you have an unambiguous list. Preferably with single word answers, generally 3 to 8 items long. 2) Be sure to include the actual answer as an alternate so people don't have to guess the next question, too. (e.g. the last answer in the first column looks like this in the data:
Year One - Last word in the title of the 7 Harry Potter novels in alphabetical order | Stone - You have passed Year One! Now alphabetically list the four student 'houses' of Hogwarts/Stone
"|" represents the break between the 1st & 2nd column.

Really! I lost because I didn't see I had to type Weasley twice. I breezed through everything to the DADA teachers and the got stuck. I got stuck and when I got to the players, I was stuck on bell. I got it and actually wood typed in when time ran out, not knowing I needed to type in the other Weasley.
Dec 11th, 2010 at 14:46 GMT
love the quiz! i think that you should make part two of the OWLs the entire OWL section, the marauders year 6, and then make a newt. do this and add about 2 minutes or so because you added on. 5 star quiz.
Dec 17th, 2010 at 00:59 GMT
Do me a favor and make "Charles" acceptable for Charlie. Took 30 seconds off my quiz trying to figure out which Weasley kid was between Bill and Charlie.
Dec 21st, 2010 at 08:44 GMT
i totally got everything the first time, even knew the last three would be weasely weasely wood. but couldn't think of spinnet!!!
Dec 27th, 2010 at 23:00 GMT

Dec 27th, 2010 at 23:01 GMT
