Can you name the teammates with 40 homers and 20 wins since 1980?
created by

Enter an answer (last names acceptable) in the box below
Correctly named answers will show up below
Answers do not have to be guessed in order
Pitchers are listed first. Some teams had 2 20-game winners or 2 40-hr hitters. Teammates must have spent entire season together. Since 1980.
Obviously #s in the 20s are the wins and #s over 40 are home runs by hitters.

Very good idea, but maybe too easy.

Nice quiz. I don't think it was too easy, and I got a high percentile. There was a good time limit, a few really tough ones, and overall it was fun to play.

Notably, the Red Sox, Diamondbacks and Phillies are the only teams to win the World Series with a 40-hr hitter and 20-game winner since 1980.

You forgot Manny Ramirez for the 2004 Red Sox. In fact, he led the AL in homers that year (43).

I don't know if there's ever been a better combo than Jr. and the Big Unit.

enough, don't forget Warren Spahn and Hank Aaron, Spahn and Eddie Mathews, Lefty Grove and Jimmie Foxx, Juan Marichal and Willie Mays, Babe Ruth and Lefty Gomez, Ruth and Red Ruffing, Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford, and Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton.

Jon Leiber is more known than Kevin Brown?

Really depends how long you require the pair to be teammates, and do Junior/Johnson lose points from Griffey's injured half of '95 and Johnson's mostly lost '96. If you go by 1 season, Speaker/Wood in 1912 looks hard to beat. Radbourn/a sack of potatoes from 1884 is a contender too.

Gig, really, Speaker & Wood? I'd go Gehrig and Gomez in 1934, both won Triple Crowns. Spahn/Aaron career.

Wood pitched 60 more innings than Gomez. Some of that difference is probably era, but not all of it. Wood had a .784 OPS/116 OPS+ in 146 plate appearances, Gomez .330/-11 in 119, even for a pitcher Gomez wasn't a very good hitter. Speaker/Gehrig I suppose comes down to how much faith we have in 100 year old fielding statistics, but Speaker certainly had a great reputation. I have to agree with Spahn/Aaron though. Mantle/Ford might sneak ahead of them on WAR or similar stats, but they played together for 6 extra years.

In 1918 Babe Ruth went 13-7 with a 2.22 ERA. He led the league in homers with 11, despite only playing in 95 games. He also went 2-0 in the World Series.

Based on this quiz you can see why the Giants and Braves both won 100+ games in 1993. And yes, there are definitely people who give everything a 1. Pretty lame.
