I made a quiz that listed player who hit 100 home runs and stole 100 bases in the same season. It wasnt very long.

Please accept Van Slyke. Since it accepts last names only it either only takes the full name, or just "Slyke". Really cool quiz otherwise.

A lot of sporcle quizzes will accept "Yaz" for Yastrzemski, and I always appreciate it when they do. Of course that's not what his name is and it's probably the right thing to do not to accept it, but that is a damn hard name to spell.

Andre Dawson has been added... Larry Walker had 99 HR and 98 SB and Tim Raines had 96 HR and 635 SB for the Expos/Nats.

Two more just missed: Duke Snider had 99 SB for the Dodgers and Soriano had 98 HRs for the Yanks. Also, looks like you'll need to add Chase Utley by the All-Star break. Nice quiz.

I was amazed that Roberto Clemente was not on the list. He was a great baserunner, but stole only 83 bases in his career. Regarding Yaz, it also took me a long time to learn how to spell his name. I always thought it was spelled Karl.

Really surprised at some who were here and some who were not. Big thumbs up.

Tony Gwynn stole 319 bases? Wow! Surprised not to see Steve Garvey.

Kinsler's only 8 HR's away from being added as well.

Cool how Bobby and Barry Bonds both have the exact same number of SBs for the Giants.

Steroids. |

Accept Yaz, please. I've seen more quizzes that do than do not. @Winning: Barry Bonds's stolen base numbers declined significantly during the probable years of his usage. So yeah, if it wasn't for steroids Barry would have had MORE stolen bases for the Giants than his father.

If Sporcle is going to accept "Yaz" for some of its baseball quizzes, then it should accept it for all of its baseball quizzes.

Surprising how weak the Dodgers list is. I guess they were built around sluggers back in Brooklyn and pitchers in LA. Three great players, two other guys, and none of the guys from their great teams in the 70s and 80s.

I was a little surprised when my Tony Gwynn guess was correct. Then very surprised when I found out he stole 56 bases one year! What a complete player shame he never won a world series.

i was really surprised that clemente was not on this list. upon looking it up, i found that he played 18 full seasons for the pirates and had 83 sb's for his career. that's less than 5 per year. dude was not slow though; he had 166 triples in his career (over 9 per year). can someone explain these stats to me?
| moegoldberg: | Mar 21st, 2011 at 00:48 GMT | | 7 points |
I knew Ripken wasn't a big base stealer, but it's shocking to me that he didn't even get close 100 over 20 years. What kind of shortstop doesn't even average 5 SB per year?

If people need to spell Vanuatu and Kyrgyzstan correctly on Sporcle geo quizzes, I don't think it's too much to ask that they spell Yastrzemski. Of course I might be biased because I'm a Red Sox fan and have a Polish name. Try breaking it into Yas-tr-zemski.

@moegoldberg -- in Ripken's case, a Hall of Fame shortstop. He showed you can play the position well without being fast by being quick, smart, and athletic.

Great quiz, RK559. Definitely a quiz that requires more thought since it involves considering the hitters who had a combination of power and speed or just the ability to do those things adequately over really long periods of time.

The one that really amazes me is Mantle who managed to steal bases with no knees
