	Lara and Laura sound quite different in my accent (New York-area.) This is one of those things that make this sort of name-grouping subjective, I think, in that sometimes one name can be pronounced differently by different groups.

	Kerry/Kerri shouldn't be with Carrie. Carrie is a short form of Caroline isn't it? Whereas Kerry is from the surname, itself derived from the placename of Kerry in Ireland.

	Most Carrie's that I've known are simply "Carrie"--not short for anything. I'd think Carrie, Kerry, Kerri, Cari, Keri, Carey should be grouped together as they are all pronounced identically (the premise of same name, different spellings). KARI poses difficulty as it is sometimes pronounced as the others, sometimes with the first syllable rhyming with CAR and not CARE. Personnally, I blame the actress Kari Wuhrer, who in her early days on MTV's "Remote Control" game show was always correcting host Colin Quinn (was that his name?) "It's CAR-EE, not CARRY". Strange, the useless, irrelevant things you remember! Have I dated myself???

	But Kerry/Kerri has a completely different etymology to Carrie etc. I thought the names in the quiz were grouped together according to whether they are variations of the same name or not, not according to whether they're pronounced the same. The fact that some people have Carrie as their official name doesn't change the fact that technically it is a short form of Caroline, and therefore not a version of Kerry. Diminutives can be, and are, given as official names, but that doesn't mean they aren't still diminutives. Incidentally, Carey is etymologically a separate name to Carrie/Cari; it's descended from the surname Carey.

	@RogerAnthony: three different pronunciations? Please explain, because in this neck of the woods they ALL are pronounced the same as the verb CARRY. @triplet_3: you're overthinking the game. It's not about etymology, it's simply varations on spellings of names which homophones.

	I don't see how I'm overthinking the game. The quiz title/heading doesn't say anything abuot homophones, it implies that it is different spellings of the same name that are on each line. Also, where I'm from we pronounce Carrie like CARRY, Kerry like BERRY and Carey like FAIRY. Never known anyone called Cari so don't know how that's pronounced here (the UK).

	Oh boy... lots of comments, heh. Ummm I had always combined ALL the spellings as shakirafan and sophicnmuse suggest, but in one of the other games, someone mentioned the possible pronunciation of Kari as CAR-ee, so in this game, I separated it. As for the rest of them... my intention was to combine names that are pronounced the same, not worrying about etymology. However, I do understand how etymology could come in, since I said "spellings of the same name"... therefore, if the names aren't technically the same name, they should be separated even though they ARE pronounced the same. I will change the instructions to fix this issue.

	And triplet, as far as I would think, FAIRY and BERRY are pronounced the same. Maybe in the UK it is different. Ultimately, there's not one right answer... so, I guess, I should lean on the side of combining names rather than separating them, just because that way, people will get the max number of answers correct.

	FAIRY and BERRY do have very similar pronunciations I admit, but they are definitely still different. FAIRY has a greater emphasis on the first syllable.

	Fair enough readysetgo. Etymology does seem a much less subjective way of grouping names than pronunciation, but it's your quiz so you can do what you like! I still enjoy playing it :)

	@Triplet: I see the old problem of "two peoples separated by a common language" has appeared! Here in the upper midwest of the U.S., carry, berry and fairy all have the exact same vowel sound, as do ferry, merry, marry, dairy, parry, harry (to harass), vary, and very. In the name department, they also rhyme here with Gary, Larry, Mary, Teri, Jerry, Sherrey, Harry, Barry, and Perry! I guess we like to keep things "simple" when it comes to pronounciation!

	@ shakirafan: Here in Australia the names Kerry, Carrie and Mary are pronounced with a distinctly different vowel sounds!! Kerry rhymes with merry, berry and very; Carrie rhymes with Harry, Larry and marry; and Mary rhymes with vary, dairy and fairy. Mary has a long vowel sound, whereas Kerry and Carrie have a short vowel sounds.

	Where I live, too, (New York), Carrie and Kerry are pronounced differently. I say Carrie with a short a like in mat, and Kerry with a short e as in pet. I would say Carey, Cari, Kari, etc. the same as Carrie. I have a cousin named Carrie but she pronounces it like Kerry (her mom wanted it that way, but didn't like the meaning of Kerry) and has to correct people all the time. There is a similar issue with marry/Mary and Erin/Aaron. In many places, they are pronounced the same way. In my area, they are distinct.
