I looked up fibonacci but according to what I read it is not possible to get 21 from any of the preceding numbers.

yes you can....you add the previous 2 numbers to get the following number...0 is included but does not count as the first number... so it goes 0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89,144.....and so on. very simple actually.
