In 1970, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's name was still Lew Alcindor. You should at least accept it as an alternate.

How does someone win the MVP 3 times and not make the ALL-NBA first team any of those times?

Russell was not that outstanding stat-wise in any of the seasons he won MVP. How ever, his presence in the middle was invaluable against the bigs of the day for the Celtics and the reason they were so good (for a modern day example, think Ben Wallace on roids). I can't see how you can argue with the first team selections of Bob Pettit the year the Hawks won the title, or Wilt the years of the 27.2 rebounds per game or 50.4 ppg. However, when it came down to it, the Celtics had Cousy and not a lot else without Russell those years; the Warriors still had all-time greats Paul Arizin and Tom Gola without Chamberlain, and titles count.

yeah...look at the competition russell faced...also, consider the conundrum abdul-jabbar, cowens, Mcadoo and Walton faced...four big men, two spots. If you want a longer version of this, see http://www.sporcle.com/games/purplebackpack89/scoringnoallnba ...it accounts for both 1st, 2nd, and 3rd all NBA, and top five in scoring.

Jerry Stackhouse won it numerically, not avg...Iverson avged more points in that year (his MVP and NBA Finals season), but Stackhouse played more games.
