Great idea, although is it really necessary to force answers, especially in the short time given? Often one will know many schools that apply here but not necessarily the state they are in.

It may also be good to include D.C. (ex: Georgetown).

33/36 (GA/MS/NH) and the NJ bonus (so much for Rutgers, haha). Acceptable names were excellent and the time was just about right - might even consider shortening it by a minute. Very nice quiz and definitely a 5 glober!

You should specify in the instructions that you are talking about Division 1 basketball, not Division 1 football, as many of these schools are not Division 1 football schools.

And why the bonus answer for Louisiana? Shouldn't that university be accepted as a regular answer?

@amwoods13 Division I doesn't refer to a specific sport. It's the way the NCAA classifies it's member universities. View the source to see what I mean. And New Orleans is a bonus since it is a reclassifying school (from Division I to Division III).

Thanks for the New Orleans reason as I guessed that. For Maryland I could not get stupid Johns Hopkins out of my head. Damn LAX.

Loved it. Success ont his quis requires knowledge of the A10, WAC, Ivy League, Missouri Valley, and SWAC conferences with a gold star by the MVC.

@gopaladins: The full name of the university is Bowling Green State. And it works.

@shroomyshroom- Amherst college is a Division III school. It's UMASS Amherst which is Division 1, but it obviously has the name of the state in it.

Puckett, it's surprising to me that the official NCAA name for Rutgers is Rutgers (SUNJ), but the New York schools (with the exception of Buffalo) are all listed sans SUNY. Interesting that that's how the NCAA decided that one.

Kind of semantics but you might want to specify that colleges are also acceptable. University implies graduate programs and some of these schools do not offer them (i.e. Holy Cross).

Great quiz, but I might quibble about Johns Hopkins. If you are accepting schools that play D-1 in any sport - JH has been a national lacrosse power for years.

@Kroxquo I mention in the notes to consider D-I basketball schools only.
@Dysart Fresno State is actually California State University, Fresno. See source.

If you accept Johns Hopkins because of Lacrosse, you will need to accept a bunch of college hockey teams.

This strategy got me pretty far: 1. Enter the Ivy League schools. 2. Name big cities in the other states. 3. If that doesn't work, add "state" after the name of the city.

You forgot Wayne State, from the Horizon League, in Michigan, unless that university's full name somehow contains Michigan in a way I'm not aware of.

This quiz taught me that Fresno State is actually California State University, Fresno. I did not realize it fell in the same category at Cal State Fullerton, santa barbara, irvine, etc

to reiterate the sentiment from the archived comments: where's DC? they would have at least four qualifying answers...

@CaptainEasychord You make a valid point, but if I had included it I'm sure I would've gotten the comment "D.C. is not a state", which is valid as well. In the end, I decided to stick to states.

"Hey, missing only one's not so bad," I rationalized to myself as the timer wound down, "particularly as it's gotta be some totally obscure school in Idaho that no one's ever heard of." (*facepalm*) For being such a complete idiot, I am going outside this weekend in 20 degree weather and painting my front lawn blue.

William and Mary's full name is "The College of William and Mary in Virginia". Yes, it's never used, but neither is "Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey".
