I chose 3000 PAs and 1000 IPs as the minimums because those are what
the source, Baseball-Reference, uses to rank career leaders in BA and ERA.
Also, the stats shown are of course from the player's time with that franchise
only.
Also, I will add that Jeff Bagwell and Bob Watson both had .297 batting averages,
and Dave Stieb and Jimmy Key both had 3.42 earned run averages. However, if you
take each average out to the next decimal place, Watson's BA was 0.2965,
Bagwell's BA was 0.2968, Stieb's ERA was 3.418, and
Key's ERA was 3.423. So indeed Bagwell and Stieb are
their respective franchise's leaders in BA and ERA, respectively.
One final note: Babe Ruth was just 24 RBI away from making this list
(Lou Gehrig: 1995, Babe Ruth: 1971), and Ted Williams was just 5 RBI
away from making this list (Carl Yastrzemski: 1844, Ted Williams: 1839)! |
