Can you name the two US states, in either order, whose names contain the two-letter combination given?
created by
puckett86
Enter a state pair in the box below
Correctly named state pairs will show up below
Answers do not have to be guessed in order
Note: Spaces are not ignored. For example, in 'Puerto Rico', OR would not be considered a 2-letter combo due to the space.

The only pairs I omitted are AK and KO, which are both North Dakota/South Dakota, because I didn't want to force answering in order.

Man that was a pain, but in a good way. It was easy coming up with one of the answers for most of them, but I kept having trouble coming up with the matching partner. My head hurts now. 5 Sporcles.

I'd like to object to how unfair this quiz is, on the grounds that I'm terrible at geography. Seriously, it's yet another clever idea from puckett86; don't you worry that we'll get bored of novelty?

I need to head over to the Language section now and find a quiz along the lines of "Synonyms For Knucklehead". The only pair I missed was Virginia/West Virginia. 5 globes.

I'm with MikeN... it'd be really nice to include every appropriate pair, just for completeness, and it doesn't seem like a big issue if that answer gets you two points. Great quiz either way, though — five Sporcles from me!

@MikeN, Pit_trout Thanks for the suggestion. I've added the two answers, but I will see how your comments are received and determine if I will keep them.
@Tahnan Thanks, but many of my quizzes actually aren't that well-received. Take a look at my contributed quizzes and you'll see plenty of sub-4 ratings. :)

YL killed me. Had one, could not for the life of me get the other. Which, considering my home state, and where I went to college, highly embarassing. How about NH getting a workout!

I got all but one with a minute to spare, and couldn't think of what other state had a RA aside from Colorado... just had to look east. ;)

A letter pair is probably the only thing that Maine and Hawaii have in common!

If you enjoyed the quiz, here's a good one to think about: Name the only pair of states whose names contain each others postal abbreviations exactly. (Example: Florida contains Oregon's abbreviation exactly (OR), but Oregon doesn't contain FL, so that couldn't be the answer.)

When faced with a ticking clock, one tends to wonder why "Wiskonsin" won't be accepted with Alaska and Nebraska.

It was a lot harder than I originally thought. It took a while to warm up, and then I ran out of time. Missed too many obvious ones. Great quiz.

@tarheels2010, KA is also in Alaska, AN also in Montana, etc. No unique pairs. @yankee00, the directions clearly say that the states have to contain the 2 letter pairs. They are not supposed to be state abbreviations. @puckett86, thanks for a great quiz! It was harder than I thought it was going to be, but lots of fun!
