| I think the case for Edgar is pretty marginal, although he was a class act, brilliant hitter, and I'd be thrilled to see him enshrined. I think Ichiro is a shoo-in--not so much because his Japan league stats are "added" to his MLB stats, but because of his sheer offensive and (perceived) defensive excellence for an entire decade. 10 time AS, 10 time Gold Glove, .327 career BA, MVP, ROY, AS Game MVP, 3 time Silver Slugger, MLB Record holder for most hits in a season, tied for MLB record of most 200 hit seasons, and by the time he's done will be one of 8 players to have 2500+ hits, 400+ SBs, and a lifetime BA of .300 or greater. The other 7 are in the HOF. Even if you knock him (rightly) as a singles hitter and a relatively low OBP, he still once led the league in WAR, and that wasn't even his MVP year. And FWIW he's clearly considered a class act, obviously untouched by performance enhancing issues, etc. There are always a few dumbass HOF voters who do stupid things, but can you make a credible case against the guy? |
